• Inspect the bedroom, bathroom, entrance, kitchen or mess and shared spaces.
• Confirm that the location and photos match the listing.
• Visit during daylight and take a trusted person when possible.

Verify who you are dealing with

• Ask whether the contact is the owner, manager or authorized representative.
• Use the public number shown on the verified listing and be cautious if someone immediately moves the conversation to a different number.
• Do not share OTPs, passwords or unnecessary identity documents over chat.

Confirm every charge

• Ask for monthly rent, security deposit, admission fee, mess, electricity and any other recurring charge.
• Confirm whether rent is per bed or per room.
• Get payment, refund and deposit-return conditions in writing before paying.

Pay carefully

• Avoid urgent advance-payment demands before inspection or verification.
• Use a traceable payment method and keep receipts, screenshots and written terms.
• Check the recipient name and payment details before sending money.
• HostelSpace does not collect payments for listings in the current MVP.

Check daily living and security

• Ask about entry hours, curfew, visitors, security guard, CCTV, locks and emergency exits.
• Check drinking water, electricity backup, ventilation, cleanliness and bathroom conditions.
• Understand required documents and who can access them.

Report concerns

Use Report incorrect information on a hostel page if prices, location, availability or photos appear misleading, or if you have a safety concern. For immediate danger or suspected crime, contact the appropriate local emergency or law-enforcement authority; a platform report is not an emergency service.
